Our Mission

On July 2009, UNESCO signed an agreement to establish a UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights with the Università Europea di Roma and Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum.

The UNESCO Chair offers a university framework of reflection and study, providing information and fostering the application of bioethical principles in science, medicine and new technologies based on the UNESCO Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights.

Our UNESCO Chair encourages a wide exchange of ideas and allow for sharing of experiences through dialogue among international institutions of higher education especially with developing countries.

Our UNITWIN privileged partners are Universidade Agostinho Neto (Luanda, Angola) and Universidad Anahuac (Mexico City).

The Chair seeks to create a forum of diverse bioethics thought leaders. Collaborating in a spirit of respect and friendship, we hope to deliver a common framework to guide the application of bioethical principles in the light of the UNESCO Declaration. In this manner, we can inform and enlighten ethical, legal and public opinions, decisions and actions relative to medicine, life sciences, and human rights and responsibilities.

Supported by academics and university professors, this UNESCO Chair will offer academic degrees in bioethics and human rights, promote and conduct interdisciplinary research projects on new questions related to biomedicine and bio-law by becoming a forum of reflection, dialogue and debate.
